Android vs. iOSThe argument has waged on for years…What is the better mobile OS and ecosystem for a certain person, Android or iOS? (Windows Phone may be starting to become part of the conversation, but its nowhere near as prominent as these two competitors.) And for as long as this arguments been around, the answer has been a similar one: it depends largely on you. How dependable do you want your phone to be, versus how much customization do you want it to be able to do? Do you absolutely love iTunes, or could you spend your money elsewhere? There are many more of these questions that techies like me have turned to in order to give good phone buying advice to friends, family, and colleagues over the years. However, with recent news, and some pretty basic realizations, I think the answer is more one-sided than many, myself included, previously thought…

Android has a problem. Actually, Android has several problems. (Don’t freak out, its okay. Every platform has several problems.) Many of them we already know about. The half-baked Google TV. The lack of cohesion across different Android devices. Apple. Windows 8 with Metro. These are but a few (and likely the biggest) challenges the platform is facing going forward. But this post isn’t a list of problems. This post is the start of a conversation about how to fix them.

Steve Jobs’ Apple WWDC Keynote Preview! 1 Comment

WWDC PreviewIf you’re an Apple fan, today is a big day for you. Frankly, no matter who you are, Apple fan or not, today is a pretty important day. At 1pm Eastern time today, Steve Jobs will take the stage at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer Conference and give us details on everything from new features in the latest version of OS X, Lion, to the changes that will be coming to iOS in its new version, as well as some info on the oft-rumored iCloud. Apple offering free repairs for Apple products damaged in Japanese disasters May 23, 2011 No Comments

Apple Loves JapanGoogle’s motto might be “Don’t be evil” but it looks like they’ve got a little catching up to do. Apple announced last week that repairing, for free, any Apple branded electronics damaged in the earthquake and ensuing tsunami in Japan, exluding iPod Classic, Nano, and Shuffle. (Being phased out maybe??)

The offer was posted on Apple Japan’s website, and applies to customers living in areas covered by the Ministry of Health’s Disaster Relief Act. (AKA don’t try getting the iPhone you dropped in the toilet repaired…It won’t work.) This offer is running until the last day of June, so if you happen to live in the area and your Apple stuff isn’t working, contact AppleCare ASAP! And if you don’t live in the area, maybe just take this is a lesson in good karma.

FaceTime for Mac Beta Review October 22, 2010 2 Comments

The idea of FaceTime for Mac is a great one: Video chat with your friends and family, no matter where they are or where you are, if you’ve got an internet connection and they’ve got a new iPod Touch or iPhone.  You’re always connected, face to face, in a way that people (here in the US at least) never have been before.  That being said, Apple released FaceTime for Mac as a beta application, and it really shows. iLife ’11 Announced! October 21, 2010 No Comments

As a regular Mac user and Apple consumer I was thrilled to see Apple announce the brand new iLife. Consistent with the past, the new iLife suite will be included in new Macs, but now it is a low fee of $49 to upgrade your current iLife version to iLife ’11. The package includes a newly designed and modernized form of iPhoto, GarageBand, and iMovie, three extremely popular Mac programs used today. Let’s take a glimpse at the new software!
