Droid 3 Reviewed…Uh-oh…
Looks like XDA China has gotten their paws on a Droid 3 early…And the reviews aren’t as good we hoped. While the processor performed well, and the new version of Motoblur is definitely a go, it looks like Motorola skimped in a couple of all too important areas.
First, the screen. Motorola has apparently outfitted the Droid 3 (or Milestone 3, depending on what country you live in) with a Pentile screen. This same screen has gotten negative reviews across the board, as you can basically see pixels (not actual pixels, but that’s how it appears) once you zoom in at all to something like, say, a website. Video is also particularly bad on these. An even bigger deal though, and frankly an extreme disappointment, is the internal spec that’s lacking.
Motorola has gone the way of the original Droid and skimped big time on the Droid 3′s RAM. The original Droid, in a time where phones were getting 512MB and 1GB of RAM, had 256MB. This was (sort of) justified becasue the Droid had a graphics chip that was better than most other phones at the time, giving it comparable performance, particulary in graphics heavy situations like gaming. The problem is that the Droid 3 has a great processor, but that’s not going to make up for having half the RAM of other phones anymore. The real question is, why skimp on this? If you increase the price of the Droid 3 by $50 and put the RAM on par with other phones, the only knock on the D3 would be its screen. Frankly, people can get over a screen. But when you combine a bad screen with what will likely be reduced performance, and lack of 4G LTE, this phone is pretty likely to be skipped over by most.
What do you think? Is the Droid 3 still ao contender? Or will you be getting a different Android phone, or even iPhone? Sound off in the comments!
