Is this the Apple iMac Touch?

Seems like Apple might have another touchscreen in store for us!  This rumor actually circulated a little while back when Apple applied for the patent, but is now making a resurgence with a DigiTimes report that Sintek Photronics has sent Apple production samples of 20 inch capacitive touch screens.  Assuming the rumor is true, the first place your mind logically goes is a touch screen Mac.  Why would this be cool?  Well first of all, the iMac is one of the best desktop experiences you can have.  It’s super quick, easy to use, and looks great sitting on your desk.  What’s more though, is that if you’ve ever used an iPad extensively then jumped on a Mac laptop or iMac, its easy to find yourself wanting to swipe the screen down while browsing the web or reading a document, or pinch in and out to zoom in on pictures.  This extra functionality might be kind of nice if baked right into OS X.

From the business side, it would make some sense.  It would allow Apple to more tightly integrate their iPhone, iPod, iPad, and OS X platforms.  It also would allow Apple to really knock shoddy products like HP’s TouchSmart PC’s right out of the marketplace.  Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against HP, Windows 7 (which I frankly love,) or innovative form factors, but half baked products like HP’s TouchSmart don’t help consumers or the industry.  (So come on guys, make them better and cheaper, or don’t make them at all.)

What do you guys think?  Would you be interested in a touch screen iMac?  What if your Macbook could have one?  Let us know below!
