Droid Bionic Launch Date Leaked, Just Over 2 Weeks Away? July 16, 2011 No Comments

So…This is huge. Looks like we’ve finally got what appears to be a concrete release date for the Droid Bionic by Motorola. Even crazier than having it though, is the date itself – August 4th. While everyone was basically expecting this phone some time this summer, late August was the general consensus.

Furthermore, the Bionic was delayed, delayed, and delayed some more, leaving us all half-expecting it to not be out until fall. With a normal phone delayed this much, we’d be a little wary of the specs, as all too often a phone’s release will be pushed back due to contract negotiations or some other business function, and the phone won’t be updated in the meantime. Then, when the phone releases, its specs are already out of date. The Bionic though, appears to be a different story. Supposedly, the Bionic was delayed when the iPhone 4 came out, in order to be able to better compete with what Motorola felt will be the Bionic’s competition, which we hope Moto knows is the iPhone 5.

Official Facebook App Finally Coming to the iPad? June 25, 2011 No Comments

Facebook on iPadYes, you’re right, it has taken way too long, but after well over a year of waiting, it looks like there may finally be word of a native Facebook app for iPad coming our way designed by the actual Facebook team.

While Facebook has always had apps for the iPhone, Android, and even the lowly Blackberry, iPad users have been left out in the cold. Using either Facebook.com, which works but isn’t at all optimized for touch, or one of several third party apps available (like Friendly for Facebook,) iPad users haven’t had a perfect way to use the site. Thankfully though, the New York Times’ Nick Bolton seems to have picked up on some info that says that should all be changing soon.

Nexus 4GSo a quick summary of a few different rumors around the Internet…We saw an interesting amalgamation of news this week surrounding the supposed “Nexus 4G,” including some crazy specs, and a potential release period.

While Google hasn’t really mentioned anything about a new Nexus device (and of course neither have any carriers) we have assumed one is forthcoming. With the success of the prior two Nexus devices, and Google’s constant desire to put skinless Android on a fast, marketable device, you can pretty well count on a new Nexus phone every once in a while.

Apple iCloudTo almost anyone who uses iTunes, purchasing music has always been the name of the game. For a smaller faction of users though, subscription music has always been the way to go. From Zune Pass to Rhapsody, Rdio to Spotify, its been pretty well proven that people enjoy having unlimited access to whatever music they want, without having to make the consideration of whether or not they want to buy another full CD, or even spend .99 cents on a single. Very recently, with the popularity Android has gained in the marketplace, Google introduced Google Music. Now, it appears that Apple is ready to show us what they’ve been working on. Rumored to be called iCloud, it appears Apple’s service may do more than initially thought. Read on past the break for all the dirty details!

Verizon Getting the iPhone on Tuesday!? January 7, 2011 No Comments

Oh snap, get out your wallets. Engadget has reported, and the Wall Street Journal has confirmed, that the iPhone may finally be coming to Verizon this coming Tuesday. Is this just a rumor for now? Absolutely, but what’s not a rumor is that Verizon has announced a big announcement for next Tuesday, right after finishing up CES.

To add some fuel to the fire, it was pretty widely speculated a few weeks back that the iPhone would be released onto Verizon the week following CES. While we won’t officially come out and say its happening, as no one really can without an amazing inside source, it does look like this is the most likely time or it to happen since the rumors have begun.

The one thing stacked against this rumor is the assumption that Apple would allow Verizon to make this announcement. While Apple hasn’t really announced the iPhone being added to a carrier since the iPhone’s first announcement to AT&T, this is probably its biggest release ever, since demand seems to be pretty pent up for the phone on this major US network.

We’ll have more on this as we hear it, so stay tuned! In the meantime, what do you think? Is it finally here?

The Mac App Store IS coming in January! December 20, 2010 No Comments

Mac App Store Stock ImageYou may remember our post from a little over a week ago speculating that the Mac App Store may be coming to Macs as soon as January. Well as it turns out, it is! Apple has released an official statement confirming that the Mac App Store will open for business on January 6th. Apple’s official press release is included below, but the main points are as follows:

  • Available on January 6th, 2011
  • Updates for apps are delivered through the App Store, just like on other iOS devices, making it easy for developers to update, and easy for users to stay up to date.
  • The Mac App Store will be for Snow Leopard (Mac OS 10.6) users and up, so if you’re still running Leoapard, its time to upgrade!
  • The Mac App Store will be a free download to Mac users.
  • Purchased apps can run on all of your personal Macs.
  • Developers wil get 70% of the earnings, Apple will get 30%, giving developers plenty of incentive to get their Apps in the store.

I’m interested to see how they’re going to implement the “Purchased apps can run on all of your personal Macs” part, as transferring other things from computer to computer that you buy from the iTunes store (ie. music and movies) has historically been a challenge, but here’s hoping one copy of software will be good on all my computers!

Are you excited for the App Store? Do you prefer downloading software or having a CD or DVD backup just in case something goes wrong?  Let us know!
