Why I’m switching from Android to iOS, and why you may want to consider it, too.

Android vs. iOSThe argument has waged on for years…What is the better mobile OS and ecosystem for a certain person, Android or iOS? (Windows Phone may be starting to become part of the conversation, but its nowhere near as prominent as these two competitors.) And for as long as this arguments been around, the answer has been a similar one: it depends largely on you. How dependable do you want your phone to be, versus how much customization do you want it to be able to do? Do you absolutely love iTunes, or could you spend your money elsewhere? There are many more of these questions that techies like me have turned to in order to give good phone buying advice to friends, family, and colleagues over the years. However, with recent news, and some pretty basic realizations, I think the answer is more one-sided than many, myself included, previously thought…

How Google can fix the Android ecosystem (and make sure we hear about it.)

This article was originally posted on The Verge Forums. Click here to see it, and be sure to participate in the ensuing discussion.

Android Ecosystem

Android has a problem. Actually, Android has several problems. (Don’t freak out, its okay. Every platform has several problems.) Many of them we already know about. The half-baked Google TV. The lack of cohesion across different Android devices. Apple. Windows 8 with Metro. These are but a few (and likely the biggest) challenges the platform is facing going forward. But this post isn’t a list of problems. This post is the start of a conversation about how to fix them.

Rest in Peace Steven P. Jobs

“ Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

Droid Bionic Launch Date Leaked, Just Over 2 Weeks Away?

So…This is huge. Looks like we’ve finally got what appears to be a concrete release date for the Droid Bionic by Motorola. Even crazier than having it though, is the date itself – August 4th. While everyone was basically expecting this phone some time this summer, late August was the general consensus.

Furthermore, the Bionic was delayed, delayed, and delayed some more, leaving us all half-expecting it to not be out until fall. With a normal phone delayed this much, we’d be a little wary of the specs, as all too often a phone’s release will be pushed back due to contract negotiations or some other business function, and the phone won’t be updated in the meantime. Then, when the phone releases, its specs are already out of date. The Bionic though, appears to be a different story. Supposedly, the Bionic was delayed when the iPhone 4 came out, in order to be able to better compete with what Motorola felt will be the Bionic’s competition, which we hope Moto knows is the iPhone 5.

For the ridiculously good specs on the phone, click through to the full story!

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Launching in the UK

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 UK ReleaseWe told you last week that Verizon was going to start carrying Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 in July, and it looks like we’ve got even more news coming your way regarding the iPad 2′s big competitor.

Samsung has now made it official that the tablet will be available in the UK in both 3G and Wifi variations on August 4th, 2011 in stores across the UK. Launching with Android’s newest Honeycomb OS (3.1) and a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processer, the UK version will also rock an HSPA 3G radio, or if you’re in the US, 4G.

Check out the links above to remind yourself about all that is the Galaxy Tab 10.1, and then tell us, will you be picking one up? Or are you waiting for the next, next big thing?

Official Facebook App Finally Coming to the iPad?

Facebook on iPadYes, you’re right, it has taken way too long, but after well over a year of waiting, it looks like there may finally be word of a native Facebook app for iPad coming our way designed by the actual Facebook team.

While Facebook has always had apps for the iPhone, Android, and even the lowly Blackberry, iPad users have been left out in the cold. Using either Facebook.com, which works but isn’t at all optimized for touch, or one of several third party apps available (like Friendly for Facebook,) iPad users haven’t had a perfect way to use the site. Thankfully though, the New York Times’ Nick Bolton seems to have picked up on some info that says that should all be changing soon.

Rumored Nexus 4G Specs and Release Date!

Nexus 4GSo a quick summary of a few different rumors around the Internet…We saw an interesting amalgamation of news this week surrounding the supposed “Nexus 4G,” including some crazy specs, and a potential release period.

While Google hasn’t really mentioned anything about a new Nexus device (and of course neither have any carriers) we have assumed one is forthcoming. With the success of the prior two Nexus devices, and Google’s constant desire to put skinless Android on a fast, marketable device, you can pretty well count on a new Nexus phone every once in a while.

For more on the phone, including hardware, and some interesting software specs, hit up the read link!

Verizon to start selling Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in July

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1Droid-Life was reporting last week that a Verizon Wireless rep had announced that Samsung’s Galaxy S II would be available through the carrier come July. Well, it looks like the rep was mistaken, and that wasn’t quite the case. What is face, however, is that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (head here for our details on this new Samsung tablet…) from Samsung will be for sale come July, and frankly, this news is just as good.

Giving us no exact date is a little annoying, but who are we to complain? If you recall, we’re talking about the thinnest tablet on the market to date, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and Google’s Honeycomb 3.1, making it right on par with Motorola’s fully updated Xoom, but right from out of the box.

So are you waiting until July for your tablet purchase, or do you already have an iPad 2 anyway? Let us know in the comments, or give us a shout on Twitter!

HTC Sensation 4G available today, discounted online!

T-Mobile HTC SensationGuess what? Like we reported on earlier this month, the HTC Sensation is available today at T-Mobile. If you remember, the Sensation has been up for sale in Walmart stores for 3 days now, but is now available at T-Mobile storefronts nationwide. Even better yet, if you order online, you’ll get a $50 discount right off the top, bringing the phone down to match Walmart’s final price of $150.

Just as a refresher, the Sensation is one of the hottest phones available, with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 4.3″ qHD screen, and HCT’s Sense 3.0 skin. The phone’s got super specs, and should a ridiculous phone to review. We’re trying to get our hands on one to review, so hang tight and keep your eye out for our take on the hottest phone on the block right now.

What do you think of the Sensation? Are you a T-Mo customer, and if so, will you be picking one up?

Droid 3 Reviewed…Uh-oh…

Droid 3 from XDA ChinaLooks like XDA China has gotten their paws on a Droid 3 early…And the reviews aren’t as good we hoped. While the processor performed well, and the new version of Motoblur is definitely a go, it looks like Motorola skimped in a couple of all too important areas.

First, the screen. Motorola has apparently outfitted the Droid 3 (or Milestone 3, depending on what country you live in) with a Pentile screen. This same screen has gotten negative reviews across the board, as you can basically see pixels (not actual pixels, but that’s how it appears) once you zoom in at all to something like, say, a website. Video is also particularly bad on these. An even bigger deal though, and frankly an extreme disappointment, is the internal spec that’s lacking.
